Most carriers offer the possibility of the so called stop-over in a transit place to or from Australia. This is a very good option for those who wish to take a small break during their travel for a short rest, especially people travelling with small children. This is also an attractive option for globetrotters and travellers who enjoy visiting foreign countries and who wish to see distant and exotic cities on their way to or from Australia.
Some carriers offer very attractive packets that go with your ticket. The packets can include accommodation in a hotel close to the airport and transfers to/from the airport in the given location. Ask for details in one of our Bridge Agency offices.
You can plan your stop-over in one of the European or Asian cities (Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo, Kuala Lumpur, Seoul, etc.). A stop-over lasts usually one to several days (1 day or night or even two weeks). The departure date and time from your stop-over destination will depend on the availability of places in the given period. In the case of a stop-over in one of the South-East Asian cities (especially in particular seasons and on particular routes like Hong Kong - Sydney) you should keep in mind that there are more travellers than on flights from Europe.
Usually 1 stop-over doesn’t influence the price of the ticket. Airlines don’t charge travellers for choosing such option. Additional charges may however apply for more than 1 stop-over (additional stop) during one’s travel.
Many students returning from Australia choose a stop-over in one of the Asian cities. They do so on their way back to their home countries because they have more time to visit this part of the world. More often than not they decide to visit several different cities in a given country (travelling between the cities using various means of transport) or even different countries.
A traveller can also choose to purchase the so called open-jaw ticket which allows to return from a city other than the one he or she arrived, or in which the final destination is not the same as the original departure city. This option allows to visit one or more countries on your way. This is a one way ticket but it allows the traveller to stop in one place and then resume the travel in another city. This option gives the opportunity to explore between two points and not have to worry about using time to return to the arrival city.
