Milner College is located in the city centre of Perth and is well serviced by public transport (buses and trains). The Perth Central Train and Bus Station is a 7 minute walk from the college. Milner is a two minute walk from the Swan River and a 5 minute walk from the bustling shopping district in the Hay St. Mall. Milner´s experience dates back more than 30 years. It is Australia´s second longest established private EFL school and Perth´s first. Directors Warren and Rosemary Milner established the college in 1984, as a natural outcome of their interest in education and languages. Warren is an Honours graduate of the University of Western Australia and Rosemary is an Honours graduate in languages. Both have had extensive teaching and administrative experience. Milner College is registered by the Ministry of Education, accredited by NEAS Australia and is a member of English Australia.

Milner College is completely owned and operated by the Milner family. Warren and Rosemary´s daughter Vanessa Milner, an Honours graduate of the University of WA, also works at the college full time in the position of Associate Director and Marketing Co-ordinator.

Personal attention is a top priority at Milner College, as is offering an excellent standard of English tuition. All of our teaching staff are fully qualified, experienced professionals with a University degree and the University of Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. In 1987, Milner College was selected by the University of Cambridge as the first college in Perth to conduct this internationally recognized teacher training course.

Milner College is famous for its Cambridge courses, preparing more students for these exams than any other college in Australia. Exclusive and separate classes for the Preliminary English Test, First Certificate in English, Certificate of Advanced English, Certificate of Proficiency in English and Business English Certificate Vantage are guaranteed. Milner´s pass rate is high.

Milner College offers value for money in many ways. All students receive a free health club membership which includes use of a swimming pool, spa, sauna, gym and aerobics classes. We have free pronunciation classes twice weekly, a free counselling service, large café and beautiful roof garden, 6 fully furnished studio apartments in the Milner building, library and listening facilities, free internet access, free wireless internet connection and extensive social program.

The broad aim of NEAS is to establish and uphold high standards of service provision in English Language Teaching.

 

The purpose of the scheme is:

• to set standards of quality in the provision of ELT programs and related services
• to provide a professional judgment as to whether ELT centres meet and continue to meet those standards

In achieving our purpose, NEAS is:

• Rigorous in its audit regime so as to sustain high levels of delivery of English language teaching;
• Supportive of the industry through maintaining a role of offering external continual improvement advice to ELT centres;
• Co-operative in its dealings with industry and government representatives when working to the benefit of the industry and its key beneficiaries, the students studying English;
• Open in its willingness to learn and participate in the future of the industry and open to reviews and evaluations of its own operations.

NEAS also aims to develop quality in service provision of ELT centres by taking a professional development role in the ELT sector. Information sessions are at times offered by NEAS which are aimed at raising awareness of quality issues in ELT, and NEAS convenes an annual national conference for the benefit of ELT managers. This conference focuses on management issues typically facing ELT managers, with the content based on the needs of the participants.

We are happy to organize students´ accommodation during their time at Milner College. We have a full time staff member dedicated to our students´ accommodation needs. We offer four different alternatives:

• Houseshare
• Hostel
• Apartments

Homestay
Around 75% of our students request homestay. This is where we place a student in the home of an Australian family. Students stay in a single private room and receive breakfast and dinner 7 days a week, plus lunch on the weekends. We carefully select only families who are friendly and kind, have a pleasant and comfortable house and who are genuinely interested in welcoming students into their home. All our families must present us with a Police Clearance.

Homestay is the best option for students who are keen to practice their English. Our families often include students in family activities such as weekend BBQ´s or a trip to the cinema. We try our best to place students close to the city and can guarantee a travelling time of 15 - 40 minutes on the bus or train. However, Australian cities are spread out and homestay families rarely live in the city centre.

Houseshare
Students stay in a single private room in the home of an Australian person. There is opportunity for interaction, although houseshare students are usually more independent.

APARTMENTS
Apartment accommodation suits students who enjoy their independence. Many enjoy the experience of sharing an apartment with a friend or classmate.

Milner College has 6 fully furnished spacious luxury studio apartments located in the Milner building.

Hostel/Backpackers
Townsend Lodge is a backpacker´s hostel in Perth ´s city centre, 2 minutes´ walk from Milner College . Students stay in single private rooms and share a bathroom with other residents. In each room there is a single bed (includes linen), desk & chair, bookshelf and wardrobe.
We recommend hostel accommodation for those who enjoy the communal ambiance of a backpackers´ residence, like mixing with other students and want to be right in the city centre.
